Saint Sofia Church

An orthodox church and the second oldest in Sofia, dating to the 6th century. In the 2nd century it was the location of a Roman theatre. It was converted into a mosque during the Ottoman rule and was later restored. The present building is a cross basilica with three altars. According to popular legends, Saint Sophia’s miraculous powers protected the building over the centuries.
